MIT Urban Studies class focuses on post-wildfire HMDR issues in Valparaiso, Chile

I had the recent and unexpected delight of  speaking to a group of undergraduate students in an MIT classroom. MIT Lecturer Cherie Abbanat leads a “City to City” class that provides the opportunity for students to travel for research and focus on solving real-world problems. Her students this semester decided to focus on Valparaiso, Chile, and its ongoing recovery from disastrous wildfires in spring 2014. Check out the class blog at https://globalcityscope.wordpress.com/ for the students’ reflections on analyzing US hazard mitigation plans, their visit to Chile, and their ideas to solve the real-world problems of hazard mitigation and disaster recovery in an area of poverty and limited resources.Valpo
